What is RFid?
The barcode has evoluted
Since its creation, barcode technology has become the standard in identification thanks to a low-cost production and a worldwide adoption.
Nevertheless, the amount of information linked to a products has increased with years while a global trends in technology is to reduce the size of the products.
Moreover, in a worldwide market, time is a key factor in every production process and therefore the RFID technology has all the qualities required to successfully face the new market challenges.
Barcode reader = 1 label at the same time
RFid reader = +/- 100 tags at the same time
This technology uses the Radio-Frequencies to establish a communication between a reader and a RFID tag which contains a antenna and a chip.
The reader send a radiosignal that is absorded by the tag which will use the power of the signal to send back a modulated signal containing the datas of the chip.
The advantages of such technology are endless but here are some key factor that makes RFID technology unique:
- No batteries required in the tag
- High-speed data read process
- Contactless reading process
- Data-encryption available
- ...
